The Nauru Rehabilitation Corporation opened its new office at its workshop premises at Nibok Topsite, with President David Adeang and Minister for NRC Reagan Aliklik jointly cutting the ribbon marking the occasion, 11 April.

President Adeang thanked NRC for making the move to topsite recognising the environment around the phosphate mining and further distance from home and essential services.

The President acknowledged their hand in providing rock aggregates for other national projects such as the port development and the construction of the new sports stadium planned for the Micronesian Games. The stadium will pioneer the rehabilitation of the land and a step in the direction of the government’s Higher Ground Initiative (HGI).

HGI is the relocation of infrastructure and population to topsite recognising that climate change and sea level rise are real.

“May we continue to move forward together, inspired and steadfast in our commitment to the land, the people, and the future of Nauru,” the President said. //
